When sex becomes an obsession, it loses all its benefits and can even become a problem.

Sex is meant to bring joy and make us feel better. Therefore, it’s absurd to suppress your desires or deny yourself pleasure. However, sometimes it’s better to abstain from sex.

Although we often talk about its positive qualities, the truth is that everything has its downside, and sex is no exception.

On this dark side are those circumstances and situations in which it would be much better  to abstain from sex if we want to maintain our health.

Sexual relationships should always be healthy. If you continue to have sex under the circumstances described below, it’s likely that instead of pleasure, you’ll experience disappointment.

1. In case of infidelity

It doesn’t matter whether you’re the one who cheated on your partner for some reason, or whether, conversely, you were the one who was betrayed. If you believe infidelity is unacceptable for the couple, it’s time to end the relationship.

Your self-esteem will be undermined. You’ll feel sad and deeply unwell around the person you cheated on or who betrayed you. Moreover, if you tolerate infidelity but your partner disagrees, your future relationship will be filled with anger and hatred.

Therefore, it’s important to lay your cards on the table right away. Perhaps you’ll move on to an open relationship or find another solution to this problem.

It’s worth noting that the worst thing you can do is try to hide the cheating. You must be completely honest with your partner from the start.

Some people are incapable of monogamy, so there’s no point in pretending. Honesty is always the best option.

2. It’s better to give up sex for the sake of emotional attachment.

Have you ever experienced emotional dependency? Perhaps you had a difficult childhood, deprived of emotional affection and warmth? People who grew up in unstable family environments often experience problems in their future relationships.

It’s not that these people don’t enjoy sex. They simply engage in it solely to achieve the emotional connection they so desperately need. It becomes a drug, an addiction, and the lack of sex causes anxiety.

In such a situation, emotional dependence and even infidelity can develop. When a partner no longer provides the love and emotion they need, the dependent person begins to seek it from others.

In this case, it’s important to identify the root of the problem instead of increasing the “dose” of sex, which will still leave you feeling empty.

Moreover, a person who frequently uses sex to achieve love and affection is trapped in a toxic relationship. They don’t love their partner, but simply need them. This can cause much more damage, and it doesn’t solve the underlying problem.

3. If sex makes you addicted

Like any addiction, if you’re addicted to sex, it’s very dangerous and needs to be addressed immediately. This phenomenon is also known as hypersexuality.

Hypersexual people are unable to satisfy their sexual needs. Therefore, they tend to be promiscuous in their relationships and their pursuit of pleasure.

Such obsession can lead to feelings of guilt, emptiness, disappointment, and loss of self-esteem.

An addict never enjoys sex. When something becomes an obsession, it stops bringing joy.

4. It is worth giving up sex, which is used instead of solving problems

Have you ever heard that many couples have sex after heated arguments? Many use it as a substitute for solving their problems.

Their big misconception is that this doesn’t produce the desired results. The problems still remain, simply masked by pleasant emotions.

So if you have this idea in your mind that sex is the solution to your problems with your partner, you should get rid of this idea as soon as possible.

Ultimately, this will have a negative impact on the relationship. There will come a point when this solution will no longer work.

Have you ever had sex for any of the reasons mentioned above? While sex can temporarily solve many problems, the consequences of such a decision are far worse.

Therefore, it is important to resist the urge and abstain from sex in the above situations.
