Defloration is a medical term that refers to the breaking or tearing of the hymen.

During defloration, a small amount of blood may or may not be released.

HOW DOES DEFLORATION HAPPEN?

The hymen, in turn, is a mucous membrane with folds that acts as a barrier protecting a girl’s genitals. This membrane can vary in shape and size from girl to girl, as well as in texture, strength, and thickness. For this reason, every girl experiences its rupture differently: some experience severe pain, while others barely notice it. Sometimes, girls are born without this hymen; this is called alasia, and it’s rare. The opposite situation, where the hymen reappears after defloration, is also rare.

Beyond the concept itself, how does defloration occur? For most women, it happens naturally—during their first sexual encounter. When the man’s penis penetrates the hymen, the woman experiences some discomfort, accompanied by bleeding. The pain varies in intensity; some barely notice it, while others experience a real ordeal.

Moreover, there are also reverse cases, when a woman feels nothing and there is no bleeding. This will all depend on the individual characteristics of the hymen; as we discussed earlier, it can vary in density, flexibility, and so on.

There are also two types of defloration: complete and incomplete. Complete defloration is straightforward: it involves a complete rupture of the hymen, while incomplete defloration is a bit more complex. Incomplete defloration refers to a breach in the hymen’s integrity, but not a complete rupture. This can occur due to injuries to this area, masturbation, inappropriate gynecological examination, deep petting, active sports, heavy physical exertion, and so on.

HOW SHOULD YOU BEHAVE WHEN YOUR HYMEN HAS BREAKED?

The most common complication for women during sex is pain after defloration. To avoid or reduce its intensity, consider the following:

  1. Correct penetration

The man should carefully and deeply insert his penis into his partner’s vagina and continue gentle thrusting movements if she is ready to continue. Once blood appears, the defloration has been successful. If your partner experiences severe pain, it is not recommended to continue sex, as there is already a wound in the vagina and penetration will be painful. Furthermore, the presence of an injury can increase the risk of infection or disease. Wait two to three days for the wound to completely heal.

  1. It is essential to use lubricant.

For your first time, it’s recommended to use a lubricant with a numbing component. It will reduce unwanted friction and may alleviate pain. Also, use condoms to avoid infecting your partner with sexually transmitted diseases or causing an unwanted pregnancy.

After your first sexual intercourse, bleeding may last for several days. During this period, use natural pads.

  1. Prelude

Foreplay is essential when having sex for the first time. Breaking the hymen is not a pleasant process in itself, and additional arousal will help the body relax completely. If a man does everything correctly and arouses his partner, the tension in the muscles will ease. Penetration will also become much easier and less painful, something the man will notice right away.

Many guys should take note that all the pain during first intercourse will prevent a woman from experiencing orgasm. For this reason, there’s no need to worry; she won’t experience true pleasure until the third or fourth time.

  1. Correct posture

For a first experience, the traditional missionary position is a good choice. The woman lies on her back with her legs spread wide, and the man is positioned between her thighs.

Additionally, be sure to place a small pillow under your buttocks; this will significantly reduce pain. This type of sex during defloration has several advantages. This position allows the penis to penetrate the vagina as deeply as possible, ensuring complete penetration. Otherwise, the process may not be completed, meaning you’ll have to repeat all the steps, which will cause further pain.

To minimize pain, the woman’s knees should be bent and pulled toward her chest, which will maximize the stretch of the hymen. When entering, the woman should move toward him, but keep all muscles relaxed.

Like first sex, defloration means a lot to a woman, so a man should make it as easy as possible. A woman may reflexively begin to pull away from him, but don’t force her; wait until she’s fully prepared and conscious.

WHAT TO DO IF DEFLORATION IS UNSUCCESSFUL?

There are cases where natural rupture of the hymen is impossible, possibly due to the hymen’s extreme elasticity. In these cases, surgical defloration may be necessary. If a man persists in attempting to rupture the hymen, he may cause damage to the vagina and internal genitalia. In addition to physiological factors that can prevent natural rupture, there is also a psychological factor. For example, a woman may be afraid of experiencing severe pain during intercourse or be embarrassed to tell her partner that she is a virgin. Surgical defloration takes 15 minutes and is performed under local anesthesia. After this short time, the woman can safely go home. However, if psychological factors are involved, the woman should discuss this with her partner, as there is nothing about this topic that could frighten or embarrass her.

Despite the fact that such a method exists, it is necessary to take into account the indications for surgical defloration:

  • A thick hymen – as we’ve already discussed, this is the most common cause of complications. If a man persists, he can damage the woman’s genitals and cause heavy bleeding;
  • high elasticity is the opposite situation to the first, when the hymen is very elastic and difficult to tear;
  • severe pain during the first experience;
  • late loss of virginity – the first sex after 25 years of age can complicate the whole process, since with age the hymen thickens;
  • intense fear that provokes vaginismus;
  • abnormalities in the structure of the hymen, when there are no lumens and bacteria accumulate there, subsequently causing an inflammatory process;
  • psychological experiences: embarrassment, shame, shyness.

After surgery, there are usually no complications; some discomfort in the groin area may last for a few days. However, this method has its contraindications:

  • venereal diseases;
  • anemia;
  • high temperature;
  • various neoplasms;
  • pathology of the genital organs;
  • epilepsy;
  • psychological disorders.

Therefore, the first experience is a serious step in any girl’s life, so it’s important to know how defloration works and carefully study all the details to avoid problems. After the process itself is complete, the girl should definitely visit a gynecologist to ensure everything is done correctly and rule out any problems. A second sexual encounter can be had a few days later; this gives the wounds enough time to heal and not cause any discomfort.
